If I do decide to give it a go, what will happen?

Step one is to telephone for further information or to make an appointment. If you would like an appointment for stopping smoking or weight loss then you must make that call in person.

It is always advisable to phone in person anyway to check the credibility of the hypnotherapist you are considering contacting. More..........

The therapist can then arrange for you to come for a visit to discuss your particular problem.

Your initial consultation prior to hypnotherapy allows you to confidentially discuss your problem and gives you the opportunity to ask questions. This consultation can be quite lengthy, it is an evaluation an overall view of your situation. It offers you (maybe for the first time) an opportunity to explain how you are, how you are feeling, what it is that is causing you concern and in itself can be a very effective therapy. In most instances a reputable hypnotherapist will advise you and together you can proceed on a beneficial programme designed to suit your personal requirements. But, if hypnotherapy isn't beneficial for you they may suggest a different avenue to seek help.

This consultation is often free but some therapists may charge for their time. Make sure the therapist charges per session and not by the hour.

If it is agreed that hypnosis can help you and you decide to proceed, normally you can do so straight away depending on your consultation.

The therapist will usually reserve the appointment following your evaluation so you can make an immediate start.

Depending on the therapist a session can be between 60 to 150 min's.

Fact File

Beware the therapist who tells you how many sessions you will need up front on the phone - BEFORE you have even met them!

Six seems to be a favourite number for these therapists?

Before starting a hypnotherapy 'session' a reputable therapist will discuss how many sessions, approximately, you will require however if any unforeseen issues arise this might have to be amended once the session is completed. The majority of problems can be resolved in anything between two and six sessions. It does depend on how you respond and how difficult your problem is. Hypnotherapy is a rapid and brief therapeutic technique, and it recognises that no one wants to spend hard earned money on a therapy any longer than needed.

A Hypnotherapy Consultation.

Each session normally takes an hour and is tailored to you specific requirements. Everything disclosed by you remains strictly confidential and is not disclosed to anyone without your specific written permission. Registered hypnotherapists adhere to a strict code of ethics for example those of the NSPH and General Hypnotherapy Register.
