Qualified Therapists.
Unfortunately most complimentary therapies and therapists
are not governed by medical legislation hypnotherapy, counselling
and psychotherapy included and this can lead to many unqualified
or unscrupulous practitioners.
There are many Hypnotherapists listed in magazines, shop
windows, telephone and web directories, and lots with grand
sounding titles, numerous letters behind their names and
impressive advertising or websites. But how do you know
which is the genuine article, who is right for you?
One of the important decisions you can make on deciding
on a therapist is to feel comfortable with them. If you
do not feel confident in their ability to help you then
look elsewhere. Make sure you talk to the therapist in
person before making an appointment, not the receptionist,
spouse, partner or family pet. Hypnotherapy is about relaxation
and if you are not comfortable with your therapist then
it won't work for you.
From the outset ask questions, a genuine therapist recognises
your apprehension (it's natural) and will be happy to offer
practical information about themselves and their qualifications.
Those that worked hard to achieve a recognised qualification
know the value of promoting hypnotherapy and won't baulk
at your questions.
Finally be wary of the therapist who reccommends you to
have six sessions paid up front, before having
met you and then will try to convince you it's standard
practice. This is not uncommon but it is totally unethical.
Remember there are a lot of very good, very genuine hypnotherapists
out there who want to help. Follow our guidelines and you
will find one.
